FAQs

MAGIC Mojo is free, right? (Yes.)

There is no charge for using MAGIC Mojo. It’s a free feature offered only to MAGIC cardholders. However, you will have to pay the usual text message rates charged by your cell phone provider.

Is MAGIC Mojo a safe place to save my money?

Yes it is. The money you have on the ‘saving side’ of the card has the same security around it as the money on the ‘spending side’ of your card. Only you can access it. That’s much safer than hiding your savings somewhere in your home.

How do I text in a save?

To save $3.00 text this:

  • Magic 3

To save $6.50, text this:

  • Magic 6.50

Text your savings to 30644.

If you are saving money by not buying something, or spending less on it, you can describe it in your text message like this:

  • Magic 7 didn't eat lunch out
  • Magic 12 shoes on sale (20% off)

"Magic" is a keyword that you must always write first in your savings texts. Following that, write the dollar amount you want to save, and then a brief description.

How much can I move onto the 'saving side' of my card?

You can move up to $75 per day onto the 'saving side' of your card, and up to $300 per month.

Can I overdraft as a result of MAGIC Mojo transfer?

No, you can’t. We will not transfer money to the savings side of your card if the spending side of your card has less than $10.00. This way, you won’t accidentally save too much leaving your card with a $0.00 balance. You will be notified via text message if a save cannot be made.

Can I get access to my savings at any time I want?

You can access your savings by logging into your MAGIC card account and moving your money from the "saving side" of your card, back to the “spending side”.

Can I have more than one goal at a time?

At the present time, you can only save for one goal. Pick the one you care most about!

Why should I involve my family in my savings goal?

If reaching your goal benefits your spouse, partner or teenager, then each save you make towards your goal should make him/her happy, right? Of course! MAGIC Mojo can text him/her whenever you make an impulse save. It’ll brighten their day and sets you up nicely for a pat on the back later.

You can also authorize your spouse or partner to make their own impulse saves. Their saves will be transferred, just like yours, from the “spending side” of your card to the “saving side”. If you share finances, this is a good opportunity for you to work together to reach the savings goals you share. And to give you full control, unless your spouse/partner is an authorized user, only you will be able to move the money back from saving to spending. You can read more about this by clicking on the tab “How It Works” and reading “Social Savings”.

How does using MAGIC Mojo with a friend work? What’s the benefit?

Ask a friend to get a MAGIC card and join you in using MAGIC Mojo to reach your goals. It works like this: Each time you make a save, your buddy will get a text message with the amount you are saving and a nudge to make a save of their own. And when they make a save, you will get a message with the amount they are saving and a nudge to make a save toward your goal.

This can be for mutual support or friendly competition. Think of it like this: friends who go to the gym together or run together, exercise more often. Having a savings buddy is like that: it helps you both save more often.

Can I use MAGIC Mojo if I do not send text messages?

Yes, you can. To make a save, log into your MAGIC card account, go to MAGIC Mojo and enter your save there.

Is MAGIC Mojo for big goals, like an emergency fund, or small goals, like a bicycle?

It works for both but in different ways. For something big like an emergency fund, we recommend doing an intense five-to-eight month "savings blitz." Then your next goal could be for something with a lower dollar amount that takes less time to save for, like a bicycle. It helps to mix it up and to save at different intensities at different times.

Where will monthly fees, ATM fees and other fees be charged?

Fees will only be charged to the 'spending side' of your card.

If I try to spend more than I have on the 'spending side', will money be taken from the 'saving side' to make up the difference?

No, it will not. Only you are able to move money from the 'saving side' of your card back to the 'spending side'. If you try to make a purchase that is greater than the balance on the 'spending side', the purchase may be declined and you will be charged a declined transaction fee of $0.50. If you have set up automatic payments from your card be sure to leave enough money on the 'spending side' of your card to cover those payments.

Could making a save cause me to have a negative card balance?

No, you cannot make a save if it will cause the balance on the 'spending side' of your card to drop below $10. For example, if you have a $15 balance on the 'spending side', and you try to make a $8 save, the save will be declined because it would leave you with less than $10. There is no charge for a declined save.

What happens if I try to save more money than I have on the 'spending side' of my card?

Your save request will be declined. (There is no charge for this.) You cannot make a save if it will take the balance on the 'spending side' of your card below $10.
